2018 wave of hatchling turtles from conservation centre in Vietnam

Since January 2018, we have started to find few clutches of species from southern Vietnam being kept at the Turtle Conservation Centre (TCC) in Cuc Phuong National Park, northern Vietnam, such as the endangered Elongated tortoise (Indotestudo elongata) and Giant Asian pond turtle (Heosemys grandis). With more species from north and central Vietnam starting nesting from the spring, we now having more than 400 eggs of 10 priorities speices in incubators.

Some of the first hatchlings of this year included a tiny, cute, Black-breasted Leaf Turtle (Geoemyda spengleri), a Malaysian Box Turtle (Cuora amboinensis), and an Endangered Four-eyed Turtle (Sacalia quadriocellata). We are expecting more than 300 hatchlings this year. With space to care for these important hatchlings running out, we need more support to build our new hatchling building and kit it out for these new animals which are all part of the assurance breeding and future release plans for the Asian Turtle Program (ATP) and TCC in the coming years.

If you would like to support the care of hatchlings at the TCC, please consider making a Donation through Paypal using [email protected] or contact us using the same email address.

We would like to thank World Land Trust, Zoological Society of London, International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Cleveland Metroparks Zoo (CMZ), American Association of Zoo Keepers, Bristol Zoo, British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA), Paignton Zoo Environmental Park, Thanh Truong Loc Construction Ltd. Company, Chevrolet Vietnam, Drayton Manor Park and Zoo, the HDH Wills Wildlife Maintenance Trust and all individuals for their continuous supports to the rescues and conservation of endangered turtle species at the Turtle Conservation Centre (TCC).
